The EFS Matrix Of Scientific Training (Primary Skills for Baseball)

In pursuit of maximizing athletic ability, there are almost an infinite number of possible sports training and fitness areas to work on.  In addition to this complication, there is not an infinite amount of time to train these numerous areas, and recovery is essential to improvement. For younger athletes, proper stimulation with adequate nutrition and rest will create a thriving state. For older athletes, after targeted breakdown (proper stimulation), sound nutrition, and then rest, the goal should be to attain a naturally anabolic (or building) state. Because of the mature endocrine system of prep and elite athletes, an anabolic state is attainable when pursued in a prudent manner. In either case, focusing on the most essential areas is crucial to maximizing training effectiveness and sports performance. In the diagram below we have identified a key list of primary skills  based on their level of importance to the sport of baseball.

Baseball

baseball |ˈbāsˌbôl|

a ball game played between two teams of nine on a field with a diamond-shaped circuit of four bases. It is played chiefly in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, and East Asia.

When using the The EFS System or EFS performance solutions, baseball players can confidently expect to improve their situation.

First of all, they can expect to improve upon their testing scores for speed, quickness, and vertical jump. Because the EFS system is proven effective, there is no guessing game or trial and error experimentation for the baseball player. Furthermore, the time saved from using the EFS System and performance solutions to improve efficiently, will allow the baseball player to spend more time practicing his field skills, such as batting, throwing and fielding.  Lastly, their field skills will have greater potential because they will now be working from a more solid foundation of primary skills (As illustrated in the The EFS Matrix of Scientific Training).

EFS Peak Performance Pyramid

Field skills such as throwing, batting, base running and fielding are only maximized when built on a solid foundation of primary skills that are rooted in exercise physiology and sport science. Like a pyramid, the wider and more solid the foundation, the higher the peak can be. See immediately below (The EFS Peak Performance Pyramid) for a visualization of this principle.

The EFS Speed, Quickness, Agility & Jump Training System

Average participants using this EFS System improve foot quickness and agility scores by 20-40%, reduce 40yd and other speed times by 2-5 tenths, and increase vertical jump score by 2-5".

Applied Benefits

Baseball players who prepare with the EFS Speed and Quickness and Jump System are better able to react to a ball while fielding, hitting and base running. They enhance their ability to field ground balls with greater speed and run bases with much better acceleration. The result is fewer errors, and more stolen bases and greater confidence. The countless "almosts" become "I cans". Performance levels surge and confidence levels flourish.

The EFS Sports Strength Program

Participants using EFS strength programs have been known to improve strength by 20-30% for the Beginners program and 40-50% for the Advanced program.

EFS AST (Applied Sports Training)

Our EFS AST programs enhance rotational (batt swing) power and throwing velocity as well applied reaction for baseball.  It wouldn’t be unrealistic to assume that players can improve throwing velocity by about 5mph, as we have seen this before with EFS AST.  Testing as well as applied outcomes (or field performances) are the primary success indicators for EFS AST.  Athletes using this EFS Applied Sports Training usually participate in private lessons, paired training or team training programs.

Baseball players from all levels have benefited from the EFS Training System and other EFS performance solutions. The following information is a brief analysis of the challenges, solutions and windows of opportunity for baseball players of all levels.

Youth Level (Ages 7-13)

Challenges: Generally speaking, younger baseball players are playing little league, Pony or travel ball and are later maybe thinking about what high school they may be going to.  At this point, their nervous system is fresh and untrained. The general baseball skills of swinging a bat, throwing a ball, catching and running bases can be quite challenging and even frustrating for the player and parent.

Window of Opportunity: The good news is, the nervous system is very impressionable, especially at this age. While complex movements at the youth level are a challenge, we have found that EFS's neural training simplifies challenging movements (by breaking them down into smaller pieces). This helps the athlete to more easily assimilate high coordination and high speed movements and ultimately enhances neuromuscular synchronization, limb control and ultimately confidence. What”s even better, is that the EFS System drills and exercises lay a foundation of greater neural connectivity which (if reinforced enough) will impact them for the rest of their lives.

Prep Level (High school years)

Challenges: Baseball players at this level are trying to make it and / or excel for the high school team, playing for a club organization, or possibly a travel ball team. This is also a time when many players and parents start thinking about the prospect of playing in college. Baseball field skills, such as throwing, batting and catching are becoming much more proficient at the high school level.

Weaknesses start to arise in the areas of power (speed and strength) as well as injury risk.

Window of Opportunity: We have created The EFS System and performance solutions to address these weaknesses and challenges by targeting and significantly strengthening them in a wise and prudent manner. The difference is preparation vs. procrastination and often doubles vs. singles, home runs vs. base hits, fast reaction and minimal errors vs. delayed reaction and multiple errors, confidence vs. discouragement. This window of opportunity is limited and over-emphasis of field skill building will often be the downfall to the many who neglect building an adequate foundation of speed, quickness and power.

Elite Level (College and Professional)

Challenges: Elite level players are playing college ball, minors, trying to get to or in some cases are in MLB. These guys have been sharpening their baseball skills for many years through an exhaustive repetition of swings, throws and fielding balls. The problem here is that there is a limited number of hours to practice and train each day. Too much practice can cause over training, and you won't get noticed if you are lacking speed or power. One must spend their practice and training time wisely, maximizing gains and as well as avoid the pitfalls of wasteful experimentation and catabolism (excessive breakdown).

Window of Opportunity: At this level of skill proficiency, the slightest edge in speed, quickness or power can yield an overwhelming victory for those who seek and attain this advantage wisely. The Proven EFS System and performance solutions are so effective and reliable at gaining this edge, that it can mean the difference between starting and sitting the bench, consistency and inconsistency, winning and losing, and ultimately success and failure for elite level baseball players.
