With his lively bat and strong arm, the 6-foot-5, 210-pound Balog helped lead Mitty to a CCS Division I title and a 31-3 record. A first baseman and pitcher, Balog hit .407 with 37 hits, eight doubles, five home runs, 22 runs and 30 RBIs. He had an on-base percentage of .500 and struck out just 10 times in 113 plate appearances. He struck out an average of one batter per inning as opponents hit just .212 against him. In the final against Bellarmine College Prep, he allowed just one hit in five innings as the Monarchs won by the 10-run rule, 12-0. "Alex was so clutch, and almost unhittable at the end of the year", Coach Hutton said. "The sky is the limit for him." Balog comes from a baseball family. One cousin, Jason Haniger, played at Georgia Tech. His other cousin, (EFS Athlete) Mitch Haniger, was recently named the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year at Cal Poly. Balog's older brother, Nik Balog, was named all-WCC after a standout sophomore season at first base for USF, where Alex will play next season. "I tell him on occasion to watch out, I might take his job," joked Alex, who is expected to pitch in college. "But I'm really looking forward to playing with him."
